Mattias Ekstrom didnt wait long to show he is the reigning champion of DTM. We would have liked to see Timo win but not a bad run to place second to the the champ and at Hockenheim. Tom Kristensen had a great start to his season, esp. looking back on 2007. (more on the whole LIVE thing later…)
Mattias Ekström (Audi) is the first winner of the 2008 DTM season. At the Hockenheimring Baden-Wuerttemberg fetched the reigning DTM champion with his brand-mate Timo Scheider in second place and Tom Kristensen at the third place a triple success for Audi. The foundation stone for the success Ekström presented at the start, when he place of a pole-man Scheider had.
Only for his two very fast mandatory pit stops had the Swede briefly take the lead abgeben. For Ekström, in the past year the opening race had won, it is the eleventh victory in his DTM career. Bruno Spengler missed in the AMG Mercedes C-class as the fourth podium scarce. Martin Tomczyk (Audi) finished the race over 37 laps on the fifth rank before Jamie Green, Gary Paffett and Bernd Schneider (all Mercedes-Benz). A respectable debut in the DTM celebrated Ralf Schumacher: His first DTM race he finished on the 14th Square.
