On a drying track, Pierre Kaffer drove the fastest lap in warm-up of the DTM at Hockenheim. With his Audi A4 DTM, the driver from Burgbrohl set a best lap time of 1.47.286 minutes. The Phoenix-driver with the 2005-spec Audi was followed by Tom Kristensen in second place, 0.318 seconds down. Three more drivers with year-old cars from Ingolstadt completed the top five: Christian Abt, Timo Scheider and Frank Stippler. The fastest AMG-Mercedes C-Class, also from 2005, was driven by Jean Alesi in sixth place, Mattias Ekström was seventh.

Behind newly-crowned DTM champion Bernd Schneider, Susie Stoddart was ninth with the fastest 2004-spec Mercedes. After only one lap, warm-up was already over for two times’ Formula 1 world champion Mika Häkkinen. The Finn came off the track coming out of the first corner and damaged the front spoiler of his AMG-Mercedes C-Class as he intended to get back onto the track via the asphalted run-off area and got stuck behind a kerb stone. His car was recovered by the marshals.
