Porsche has unleashed its gorgeous new 911 GT3 R to the world. An increase in engine capacity delivers 30hp more to a total of 480hp. A 1,200kg curb weight, new ABS, traction control and e-gas with ‘throttle-blip’ are just a few new additions. Look for the new Porsche 911 GT3 R to debut today at the Racing Car Show Autosport International in Birmingham.

The 31st running of the Dakar Rally is being held in South America for the second year, instead of the traditional African route, due to ongoing security concerns. This year’s race began and will end in Buenos Aires, covering a looping 9,000 kilometers between Argentina and Chile over 14 stages. 362 Teams began the race with 176 motorcycles and quad bikes, 134 cars, and 52 trucks. The race is just over halfway completed now, the winners expected to cross the finish line on January 16th. Collected here are several photographs from the first 8 stages of this year’s rally.

With a stage victory to the top – the Volkswagen factory duo Nasser Al-Attiyah/Timo Gottschalk (Q/D) decided the second stage of the Dakar Rally in their favour.
After coming fourth today, Carlos Sainz/Lucas Cruz (E/E) in another one of the 300-hp Race Touareg cars powered by TDI diesel engines are ranking in second place overall with a gap of just 1m 19s. (continue reading…)
