SteelSeries Simraceway SRW-S1 review

SteelSeries Simraceway SRW-S1, left side, 3/4 view

Simraceway has put together an incredible base of software, hardware and an amazing team to build their idea of driving and motorsport nirvana. Their attention to detail in physics, user interface, community development and putting a simulation development dream team together is producing incredible results. It makes sense that when they sat down and decided to create a steering wheel for the simulation, they went in a direction that hasn’t been done before and then got it 97% right straight out of the box. The 3% we left off is being addressed as this is being typed and will be explained a bit further down the page. On to the review! Continue reading ‘SteelSeries Simraceway SRW-S1 review’

Simraceway: A world of motorsport goodness in a download

oneighturbo running Simraceway on a Simcraft APEX3 GT Platinum rig

This review has been simmering on the back burners of the ONEIGHTURBO.com press kitchen for a little while now. Not because we have been putting off diving in to the world of Simraceway, but because there is so much to digest in this simulated world of motorsport goodness we wanted to make sure we give this our full attention.

Simraceway opened its doors in a slightly different manner from the other motorsport simulation developers currently playing in the deep end of the pool. Instead of grabbing a handful of software gurus, physics developers, gaming community organizers and a couple of marketing people to round out the field, they did all of what I just mentioned and then partnered with the Jim Russell Racing School based at the Sonoma Raceway in Sonoma California. This partnership saw the legendary Jim Russell school rename itself into the Simraceway Performance Driving Center. Try and name another racing simulation development house that has a base of operations at a world-class circuit. There is a reason you can’t. Simraceway has that distinction locked up. Today, Simraceway is giving you the chance to take Audi’s 2011 24 Hours of Le Mans-winning R18 TDI for a 24-hour track test drive.

The R18 TDI succeeded the R15 TDI as Audi’s LMP weapon-of-choice in 2010/11. Sporting a stabilization fin, a closed cockpit, and a smaller engine than its predecessor—significant changes both enforced by regulation and inspired by evolution—it went onto triumph at Le Mans and Sebring.
