The Smoking Tire heads out to Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch in a 370Z Roadster to find out which car can attain the highest speed on Spring Mountain’s 2.7 mile road course. Can Matt Farah, driving a Lamborghini LP550-2, out gun a Twin Turbo Ford GT and a Supercharged Audi R8? We will see.
Last Tuesday night, we were invited to the debut of the Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2 Valentino Balboni at Lamborghini Atlanta. It was a spectacular evening with two models (Blue/Orange) present, as well as Valentino Balboni himself. (We have his speech and it will be up soon). Granted we’ve all seen the images, video and reviews but now it was in the flesh for us.
We brought our FlipHD along for the trip and heres what we witnessed. Hope you enjoy as much as we did!
You can say we are pretty jealous on this one, however Jonny Lieberman has written one of the best pieces to come out of the site in while. Well done and congrats on the invite, Mr. Lieberman!

It was eleven in the morning on a typical Thursday when my phone rang. “How’d you like to drive the Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2 Valentino Balboni in Beverly Hills at 3:00 pm… with Valentino Balboni?” Aside from screaming “YES!!!” at the top of my lungs, all sorts of thoughts started to crowd my brain. What should I wear? Should I shave? Do I address him as Valentino? Mr. Balboni? Your majesty? And most of all, am I worthy? Normally at car events, you wind up talking to a bunch of MBA-types and, no offense, but really, who cares? You drink too much, brag too much, dress how you like – it simply doesn’t matter. But this was Valentino Balboni. Respect is demanded. Then I got a text message from Drew Phillips, our resident ace photographer. “No flip flops.” Right.

On August 14, 2009, Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. unveiled the limited edition Lamborghini Gallardo LP 550-2 Valentino Balboni for the first time in North America. Automobili Lamborghini president and CEO, Stephan Winkelmann, and famed Lamborghini test driver, Valentino Balboni, traveled from Lamborghini’s headquarters in Sant’Agata, Italy to present the brand’s newest super sports car to the affluent crowd of the Quail Motorsports Gathering in Carmel, Calif.
