In the GT2 class for slightly modified standard sports cars, Dirk Werner (Germany), Richard Westbrook (Great Britain) and Bryce Miller (USA) secured their maiden ALMS win with a Porsche 911 GT3 RSR fielded by Farnbacher Loles Racing.
In a dramatic finale, Werner overtook Mika Salo in a Ferrari in the last lap. “After the restart two laps before the finish I was sitting second. Mika had a slight misunderstanding with his team mate, who had already been lapped. An opportunity presented itself, I grabbed it and took him from the inside,” said a pleased Werner.
Salo then spun and had to settle for fifth place. Wolf Henzler (Germany) from Flying Lizard Motorsports also won a crucial joust in the last lap at the wheel of his Porsche GT3 RSR, putting his closest rival in the championship, Dirk Mueller for Ferrari, under huge pressure. “This led to him making a mistake and I overtook him,” reported Henzler, who secured second. With this, Henzler and his team mate Jorg Bergmeister (Germany) were able to further increase their lead in the championship.
