For the third time during this Brands Hatch weekend, Audi scored a fastest time: Mattias Ekström, who had topped the time sheets in the second test on Friday, was fastest in free practice, too. On his fastest lap (42.301 seconds), the Swede improved the fastest lap time from the day before by more than two tenths of a second. The Audi trio in front was completed by Timo Scheider and Tom Kristensen in second and third place.
Fastest Mercedes-Benz driver was Jamie Green in fourth place from Paul di Resta, who came only five thousandths of a second short of the time set by his team-mate. Behind Martin Tomczyk in sixth place, Markus Winkelhock became the best-placed driver with a year-old car in the 60 minutes’ session in seventh. Bernd Schneider ended up eighth from Christijan Albers, who was ninth fastest with his 2006-spec Audi A4 DTM with a lap time of 42.738 seconds. Down to Mike Rockenfeller in tenth place, ten drivers lapped within half a second in the final session before qualifying.
The ARD will be broadcasting qualifying from Brands Hatch live on Saturday from 13.30 h. The race on Sunday will be broadcast from 13.50 h.
