DTM: Audi Team Phoenix dominates free practice

Both Phoenix drivers Alexandre Prémat and Oliver Jarvis dominated proceedings in free practice of the DTM at the EuroSpeedway Lausitz. Driving his 2008-Audi A4 DTM, Frenchman Prémat set the fastest time of 1:18.378 minutes. His British team-mate came second, 0.197 seconds down. The Audi trio on top of the time sheets was completed by DTM champion Timo Scheider, who achieved a personal best lap time of 1:18.588 minutes with his current-spec A4 DTM.

In the Mercedes-Benz camp, a driver with a year-old car was on top, too. On Saturday morning, Jamie Green was fourth fastest overall with his time of 1:18.603 minutes. Behind the two Audi drivers Tom Kristensen and Mattias Ekström, Paul Di Resta was fastest with a 2009-spec AMG-Mercedes C-Class. On a wet track, the 20 Audi and Mercedes-Benz drivers initially drove with rain tyres. During the session, the ideal line dried out, the fastest lap times were set after some 90 minutes.

With eleven minutes remaining in the 150 minutes’ session, free practice was stopped by the red flag. Johannes Seidlitz spun off the track with his Audi A4 DTM and hit the barriers at high speed. The rear section of the car was severely damaged, so that the 18-year old will most likely be left sidelined for qualifying, which is due to start at 14:35 h.

Former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher only completed 13 laps in free practice. Due to technical problems with his AMG-Mercedes C-Class, the Austrian-based driver spent most of the time in the pits.
