
The first of two test sessions on Friday ended with a fastest time set by Audi driver Timo Scheider. At the shortest circuit on the DTM calendar with 1.929 kilometres, Schneider drove his fastest lap in 42.577 seconds. Paul di Resta occupied second place in the first test at a considerable distance. At the end of the 90 minutes’ session, the Scot was 0.494 seconds short of Scheider’s fastest time.
Behind di Resta, the margins were far smaller. Reigning DTM champion Mattias Ekström was third, 0.515 seconds down, record champion Bernd Schneider was fourth, 0.526 seconds down. Martin Tomczyk in 13th place was still within one second of his fellow Audi driver Scheider. Tom Kristensen in fifth place was followed by Alexandre Prémat, who was the best-placed driver with a year-old car in sixth. Mike Rockenfeller, Bruno Spengler, Oliver Jarvis and Maro Engel completed the top ten in seventh to tenth place. On Friday morning, local hero Jamie Green completed the highest number of laps. With his AMG Mercedes C-Class the Briton drove 58 laps and ended up eleventh.
The second 90 minutes’ DTM test will start at at 13:50 h local time (14:50 h German time). The ARD is broadcasting qualifying from Brands Hatch live on Saturday from 15.30 h. The race will be broadcast on Sunday from 13.50 h.
