On his final lap, Bruno Spengler (Daimler-Chrysler-Bank AMG Mercedes C-Klasse) claimed top position at the EuroSpeedway Lausitz. In the second test on Friday, the young Canadian completed 27 laps in dry conditions, the fastest one of them in 1:17.628 minutes. Bernd Schneider, the winner of the season opener at Hockenheim, was second with his Vodafone AMG Mercedes C-Class, 0.160 seconds down. Mattias Ekström was third with the Red Bull Audi A4.
Fastest driver with year-old machinery was Alexandros Margaritis with his Easy Rent AMG Mercedes C-Class, leading a quartet of Mercedes-drivers in fourth through seventh place. The Greek was followed by Jamie Green (Salzgitter AMG Mercedes C-Class), Jean Alesi (stern AMG Mercedes C-Class) and Mika Häkkinen (AMG Mercedes C-Class). Three Audi works-drivers completed the top ten: Martin Tomczyk (Red Bull Audi A4), Tom Kristensen (Siemens Audi A4) and Frank Stippler (S line Audi A4) ranked in eighth through tenth place.
During the second test, Olivier Tielemans completed the highest number of laps with the Futurecom Audi A4. With 40 laps, equalling 137.68 kilometres, the Dutch driver completed almost an entire race distance. On Sunday, the 20 DTM drivers have to tackle 48 laps on the 3.442 kilometres long track.
Christian Abt only managed to do twelve laps. The driver from the Allgäu had damaged the underfloor of his Playboy Audi A4 while running over a kerb. With a lap time of 1:19.954 minutes, Abt eventually was ranked 18th.
For the first time, Vanina Ickx decided the battle of the ladies in the DTM in her favour. With the Orig. Zubehör Audi A4, the lady from Belgium was ranked 16th with a lap time of 1:19.487 minutes. Susie Stoddart (AutoScout24 AMG Mercedes C-Klasse) was 20th in the second test on Friday. Fastest DTM rookie was Daniel la Rosa (TrekStor AMG Mercedes C-Klasse) in 15th place.
