FIA GT Championship, round eight in Zolder, Belgium
A tailor-made finale for Richard Westbrook. Claiming victory in Belgium’s Zolder at the wheel of a Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, the Briton secured the FIA GT Championship GT2 class drivers’ title to continue the streak of 911 successes this year. With the 911 GT3 RSR, Porsche pilots won the GT2 championship titles in the American Le Mans Series, the Le Mans Series, as well as other championships. Moreover, the 450 hp racer from Weissach was celebrated as the winning car at the prestigious Nürburgring 24 hour race in 2009.
A huge congrats to both Joerg and Patrick, the whole team that make up Flying Lizard Motorsports, partners, sponsors and Porsche!
Joerg Bergmeister and Patrick Long brought the Flying Lizard No. 45 Porsche in for a hard-fought win at Saturday’s Monterey Sports Car Championships at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. The team swept the 2009 ALMS GT2 titles: Bergmeister and Long won the Drivers’ Championship, the Lizards won the Team Championship and the No. 44 Porsche, which finished fifth in GT2 in the race, won the Michelin GreenX Challenge Championship for the GT class.
Le Mans Series, round 4 on the Nürburgring
At a gripping home race, the Porsche works drivers took a large step towards winning the title. Securing a hard-fought win on the Nürburgring, Marc Lieb (Germany) and Richard Lietz (Austria) snatched back the championship lead in the GT2 class at the fourth and penultimate round of the season. In mid-summer temperatures, the top pair of the German Felbermayr-Proton team drove a brilliant race in their 911 GT3 RSR – and in three weeks travel to the final of the Le Mans Series in Silverstone (Great Britain) as title favourites with an eight point advantage. Works driver Patrick Pilet and his teammate Raymond Narac (both France) claimed fifth for their IMSA Performance Matmut team, and with seventh position, the second Felbermayr 911 racer rounded off the good Porsche result at the German 1,000 kilometre race.

After the foray to the Algarve in Portugal, the Porsche works drivers are looking forward to the home race on Sunday, where Marc Lieb (Germany) and Richard Lietz (Austria) roll to the start for the German Felbermayr-Proton team ranking second in the championship. “Our aim is to retake the lead with a third victory of the season,” says Lieb. On the 5.148 kilometre Grand Prix circuit in the Eifel, a total of three Porsche 911 GT3 RSR take up the penultimate 1,000 kilometre race of the season.
