Kris Nissen, Volkswagen Motorsport Director: “In simple words I’m just proud and happy. Only a fantastic team like the one from Volkswagen Motorsport could actually manage to implement such an ambitious project as bringing the new Scirocco to the grid and guiding it successfully to win in such a short space of time. A lot of people helped – a big thanks to everyone.”

#118 Scirocco GT24 – Johansson/Gruber/Mutsch/Stuck – class winner (SP3T)
Jimmy Johansson (S): “I don’t know what to say. It’s just amazing that we even bettered last year’s success. The new Scirocco was sensational, the team spirit amazing. It was pure enjoyment – and I definitely want to be a part of the team again in 2009.”

Florian Gruber (D): “Amazing car, amazing race. I’m over the moon. The Scirocco ran perfectly from the first to the last lap.”

Thomas Mutsch (D): “Once the chequered flag fell the entire team was just overcome with joy. I felt totally at home with Volkswagen and am very grateful that I could be a part of the team – and would love to be again sometime in the future.”

Hans-Joachim Stuck (A): “It’s a very emotional win for me. Actually, as Motorsport Representative for the Volkswagen Group I didn’t want to race any more – and now this one-two: absolutely fantastic. What really impressed me is that the Scirocco was just as quick at the end as it was at the beginning – I’ve only ever seen this with just a few race cars. The new Scirocco was one of the highlights of the race, it couldn’t be any better. Everyone who has already ordered a Scirocco can already look forward to owning a fantastic car.”

#117 Scirocco GT24 – Sainz/de Villiers/Depping/Stuck – 2nd in class
Carlos Sainz (E): “This race weekend really exceeded my expectations. The Nordschleife, the many fans and this fantastic car – if the opportunity presents itself again then I’d love to be a part of the team next year.”

Giniel de Villiers (RSA): “A wonderful feeling! The team really deserved these first and second positions. The debut of the new Scirocco was quite simply brilliant. I want to drive on the Nordschleife again soon, the more laps I do the more I love the “Grüne Hölle’.”

Dieter Depping (D): “I liked the new Scirocco from the moment I sat in the cockpit: super handling, extremely save to drive, totally reliable and also very stylish. It was remarkable just what was possible with the further developed ABS on the damp and wet track during the night.”

#116 Scirocco GT24 – Hackenberg/Ostmann/Heger/Malmedie – 5th in class
Dr Ulrich Hackenberg (D): “Our Chairman of the Board Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn passed on his congratulations in a telephone conversation just after the finish. He’s very satisfied as this is a valuable victory for the brand and an enormous push for the launch of the new Scirocco. The final laps were very impressive for me, a wonderful feeling.”

Altfrid Heger (D): “Considering that the Scirocco doesn’t actually exist yet, crossing the finish line was sensational. I hope Kris Nissen invites me again for 2009 – I thoroughly enjoyed myself.”

Bernd Ostmann (D): “A fantastic team performance! This victory is even more impressive when you think that it was achieved before the Scirocco goes into production. I really felt at home in the team and car, it was good weekend all round.”

Matthias Malmedie (D): “It was a valuable experience to be able to compete in the 24-hour race with such a top touring car like the new Scirocco. The car was relatively easy and relaxing to drive. The motivation in the Volkswagen team really impressed me.”
