Coming back from an exciting two days of testing in Austin, JCR Motorsports heads into the Circuit of The Americas weekend optimistically, looking to establish two solid finishes at the world-renowned circuit. Courtney will race the Kenda/RecStuff Audi R8 LMS in two 50-minute double-header sprint races, May 18th and 19th, alongside a total of 19 GT class cars entered into the event. Following an intense battle that saw everything from side-by-side racing to late-race changes of fortune, GMG’s James Sofronas would deliver the prodigious Audi R8 LMS its first victory in the Pirelli World Challenge Series.
“I am really, really proud of this entire team,” stated Sofronas. “We’ve been working hard on this program throughout the off-season and the results really showed this weekend. Many of the guys were actually at the track until 5:00AM to get us all on the track today, and it’s that kind of commitment that put us where we are. Mixing things up after seasons spent in endurance racing, Duncan Ende is proud to announce his move to the Pirelli World Challenge Championships for the 2013 season. Ende will drive the no. 24 GMG Audi R8 LMS in the GT class.
Ende joins GMG after spending the past two seasons in the American Le Mans Series. As part of Dempsey Racing’s Prototype Challenge program, Ende notched two podiums in 2012, while the 2011 season saw him score three wins driving a Porsche in the GT-C class. Tristan Herbert announced today at the Washington DC Auto Show that he will be piloting one of two 2013 STaSIS REVO Group Volkswagens in the 2013 Pirelli World Challenge. Herbert exploded onto the 2011 pro racing scene in St. Petersburg setting the pole and winning the race. His accomplishments continued throughout the season as he amassed five podium finishes and culminated with earning the 2011 Pirelli World Challenge Touring Car Rookie of the Year. Grassroots Motorsports Magazine awarded his team’s independent privateer efforts with an Editor’s Choice Award as one of the Top 20 Achievements for 2011. APR Motorsport will enter two VW’s in the Touring Class at this weekend’s Cadillac Mid-Ohio Grand Prix presented by Stoptech. The team last competed in the Pirelli World Challenge at last season’s series finale at Road Atlanta where Josh Hurley finished second in Touring Car. But to race this weekend they will need a pair of drivers, and the team has secured the services of the two best drivers that weren’t doing anything else. GMG Racing, the multi-series professional racing team and premier performance tuning facility for European vehicles in Southern California, will debut the world’s first World Challenge Audi R8 LMS at the Grand Prix of Long Beach for Round 3 of the 2012 Pirelli World Challenge series. The vehicle is just one of five being fielded by GMG for the race, the most of any team, which is fitting for an event practically taking place in the team’s back yard in Southern California.
