Great news for one of the best guys out at the races. Chip can drive the wheels off of anything, is always in the mix and after a race can been seen roaming with the fans and chatting. We’ve known Chip since his days with STaSIS in the Audi A4′s. Chip will pair up with Greg Shaffer in the #50 Irish Mikes’s Racing VW Jetta GLI. Irish Mike’s Racing is another favorite of ours. Out of Orlando, FL., Irish Mike runs an honest customer service/maintenance/repair shops. A hard find these days.
Hot on the heels of impressive back to back wins at the opening weekend of the season, Irish Mike’s Racing are looking forward to the next double race weekend at Mosport International Raceway with high hopes knowing they have ground to make up in both the constructors and drivers’ standings having missed the recent round in Long Beach, California.
Following a spectacular high speed accident at VIR which left the 51 car beyond repair and Todd Buras with 3 broken ribs, such is the commitment of this Orlando team to the World Challenge Series they are making the lengthy trip to Canada with not one but two cars.
The 50 car will be piloted by World Challenge winner, SCCA Pro MX 5 Cup Inaugural winner and good friend of team owner Mike Flynn, Chip Herr. A real live wire both on and off the track Chip is sure to be a crowd pleaser and is always happy to share a story with fans and team mates alike. In 2008 Chip was fastest in practice and qualified on Pole in his Tindol Motorsport Mazda6 at Mosport. Also he had won in 2006 in his Stasis built Audi A4 from the pole. His teammate piloting the 49 car will be Chip’s long time friend and on track adversary Greg Shaffer who commented “this is a long awaited reunion for myself and Chip since we first rubbed fenders as rookies back in the late 90′s, we are pumped to join forces at long last,” so look out for some close racing between these two, as in true Formula 1 style, there will be no team rules !
While still disappointed that Todd will not be able to continue his challenge for championship points at Mosport, Mike is delighted with his driver line-up and is confident of again putting on a strong show in his exceptionally well prepared VW Jetta GLi’s, with his sights clearly set on regaining the top spot in the manufacturers standings for Volkswagen.Irish Mike’s Racing would like to thank Summit Financial and SafeRacer for their continual support.
