With the running of the 13th Annual Petit Le Mans classic literally 5 days away, the vibe in the motorsport world is thick. All eyes will be focused on Road Atlanta and the battles that will play out. Audi vs Peugeot! Porsche vs Ferrari, BMW, Corvette, Ford! The new era of Hybrid technology and more.
With oneighturbo.com based out of Atlanta, we were fortunate enough to be apart of the testing over the weekend. With teams playing it quiet and not showing their cards, the big story is weather. Rain had slowly moved in and will continue through Monday. Flash flood warnings have been issued as well. Why is this the big story?
With many rain delays, last years race was red flagged just under the 9 hour mark. Audi lost to Peugeot after leading 161 laps out of 184. Peugeot’s win was a gimme.
Two weeks ago we saw Audi’s reliability fall for the first time in years as a defect in a part (differential) caused the #7 Audi R15 TDI of Allan McNish and Tom Kristensen to stop after 15 laps were completed.
Peugeot’s car were parked in the tent but no testing took place. However, Audi had both cars running and turning strong lap times.
The GT field is stacked! Most of the teams will have a two car effort with the Flying Lizards giving support to the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR Hybrid. The Hybrid was amazing. It was running very strong, roughly 2 sec of the Risi Competizone Ferrari’s but in a 10 hours race…
Robertson Racing brought out its new Ford GT which was beautiful in its silver w/ yellow racing stripes.
We will be expanding on the weekend a bit more but check out the gallery below in the meantime. Let us know if you have any questions.
