Another top star at the world class tournament in the Porsche Arena
With just three weeks to go before the start of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, the name of Justine Henin has been added to the list of top players down to appear at the world class tournament in Stuttgart’s Porsche Arena. Together with stars like Venus Williams (USA), Kim Clijsters (Belgium) and Ana Ivanovic (Serbia), the 27 year old former world No. 1 from Belgium will be playing for prize money totalling 700,000 dollars and a Porsche Boxster Spyder.
‘We already had a fantastic field but with Justine now in the line up, it has put the icing on the cake. It couldn’t get any better,’ said Tournament Director Markus Günthardt, who met up with the seven-time Grand Slam winner and Athens Olympic Champion during last week’s tournament in Miami. ‘We have been in close contact with Justine ever since her great comeback at the Australian Open in January. After winning her Miami quarterfinal, she told me she’d love to come back to Stuttgart and try to add a second title to the one she won in 2007.’
Competition in the Porsche Arena will however be tough. A total of eight players in the top ten of the WTA world rankings will be appearing at the 33rd edition of the long standing event. Along with Caroline Wozniacki (Denmark), the new world No. 2, there is also the Miami winner Kim Clijsters, who won the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix back in 2002 and 2003, plus the Russians Dinara Safina and Svetlana Kuznetsova, Venus Williams, Victoria Azarenka (Belarus), Jelena Jankovic (Serbia) and Agnieszka Radwanska (Poland). The list of German players is headed by Sabine Lisicki and Andrea Petkovic.
The Porsche Tennis Grand Prix will begin on Saturday, 24 April with the qualifying. Tickets are available via the Easy Ticket service (Telephone +49 (0) 711-2555 555, Internet www.easyticket.de) or at the Porsche Arena’s box offices during the tournament week.
