The result of free practice of the DTM at the Hockenheimring promises excitement for qualifying: title candidates Martin Tomczyk, Mattias Ekström (both Audi) and Bruno Spengler (Mercedes-Benz) occupied first, third and fourth place respectively in the final session before qualifying.

In third place, Timo Scheider completed the clean weep of the top three positions for Audi. Tomczyk, who already set the fastest time of the day on Friday, topped the time sheets with a lap time of 1.33.121 minutes.
Mercedes-Benz driver Jamie Green in fifth place was followed by Alexandre Prémat with his 2006-spec Audi A4 DTM, the best-placed driver with a year-old car. The Frenchman was 0.625 seconds short of Tomczyk’s fastest time. Bernd Schneider, Tom Kristensen, Mike Rockenfeller, Gary Paffett and Alex Margaritis completed the top ten in seventh to tenth place. Other than on Friday, the 60 minutes’ free practice session only had the first ten drivers within one second.
The ARD is broadcasting qualifying live from 13.30 h onwards.
