With the weather holding off during the 60min session, Lamborghini Murcielago 670 R-SV’s from Reiter Engineering and All-Inkl.com rounded out the top 3 spots. Running on the 3.2mi circuit, only the #7 Aston Martin of Turner / Enge topped the charts with a 1:57.155. #24 Kox / Haase lapped in a 1:57.596 with #38 Schwager / Pastorelli right behind with a 1:57.858. Tomorrows race is shaping up to be a great one and we hope the Lamborghini’s can pull another win off.

The Nürburgring weather held for the 60-minute qualifying, with Darren Turner and Tomas Enge taking their second pole position of the 2010 season, with Turner posting a 1m57.155s lap in the Q3 session for Round 6 of the 2010 FIA GT1 World Championship at the Nürburgring in Germany. The top three places on the grid for this afternoon’s race are filled by German teams, with the nr24 Reiter Lamborghini of Peter Kox and Christopher Haase finishing second in qualifying and the All-Inkl.com Munnich Motorsport Lamborghini of Dominik Schwager and Nicky Pastorelli in third.

The first qualifying session was topped by the Hexis AMR Aston Martin of Frédéric Makowiecki in a time of 1m57.171, with Darren Turner posting the second fastest lap. Seven cars didn’t make the cut – 2,4,5,12,22,33,41.

The second qualifying session was declared wet when rain was reported from T5 to T9, but the track remained dry as the rain skirted the circuit. Tomas Enge topped the timing sheet with a 1m57.182 lap, ahead of the nr8 Young Driver AMR Aston of Stefan Mücke with a 1m57.292.

The third and final session got underway but Christopher Nygaard elected to sit in the pits and take no part in the session, the team reporting no problem with the car and saying it was to save tyre wear for the race. Again the cloud was building over the circuit but the rain held off until the chequered flag.

“Considering that the last two races, Paul Ricard and Spa, we didn’t make it through to Q3, making it to Pole position at the Nürburgring is really good. But we need to find a way to do a better job with more weight on the car, because, here the minus 20kilos on the car has made a big difference to our performance this weekend. It’s a little bit faster on this traditional racing track with no big bumps and no big curves to attack. Our goal for today was to do a good job in Q2, so to make it into Q3, so to be on pole was extra special.”

“The conditions outside are really rough and I think everybody has had problem with their tyres, but I think it’s not as much of a big issue. I think that this car is meant to do different circuits. And we were a bit surprised to see that we weren’t as fast in Spa as we thought we would be, but the Nürburgring is completely different than Paul Ricard, different than Abu Dhabi and it’s the kind of track that this car likes. It’s cool weather as well, low temperatures, so everything is in our hands at the moment.”

“The Lamborghini is getting stronger and stronger each race, and I’m very happy with the result because I did both my qualifying in the front row. But I’m even more happy to see so many journalists here, so they can maybe reflect a little bit better on the races. At spa, We were actually in quite a good lead and that we have a chance at winning the race but the reports didn’t reflect the performance we had. So we are pleased to be in a strong position once again here in Germany.”

Christopher Haase

“I’m delighted with our second place. Qualifying 1 was a great job, and Q2 was also a great job for my side, and we did a great job in Q3 too. It’s been the best qualifying performance this season for us, and I’m looking forward to the race here for my home race.”

Dominik Schwager

“We are quite happy of the performance of the car, we are a new teem and everything is getting better. Since Brno we are basically on the pace, but we never get the results in the championship race, but we manage both qualifying already but there are no points for that, and we messed it up in the pits. So we can finally get that podium that we think we deserve, so I hope we can have a decent race today.

Nicky Pastorelli

“Obviously, the conditions are difficult, we didn’t do any testing in the dry yesterday, so we were hoping that the car would be okay today because we didn’t have much time to make adjustments during the qualifying. Of course we have some things that we would like to do, we might change them for the race, but it we don’t have time we just have to live with it, to the best we can, and do the maximum. The result was much better than I expected, we were concentrating mostly on the race so we didn’t expect a good result in the qualifying.”

The Qualifying Race is due to start at 14:15. Both sessions will be streamed live at GT1World.com
