Sebring, Fla. - For three days at least, there’s a break in the doldrums of winter. We’re on the grounds at Sebring International Raceway and have gotten our first looks in person at the Audi R10 and the new Lola B06/10-AER of Dyson Racing, among others.
Both of the diesel-powered R10s turned a good number of laps at Sebring on Monday morning. Rinaldo Capello drove the No. 1 car, with Frank Biela in the No. 2 entry. It’s striking how quiet the R10s sound, although no one is surprised. That’s what running a diesel at around 5,000 revs will do. The fastest time came from Biela at 1:54.647. Biela, who won the LMP1 championship last year with Emanuele Pirro, turned 21 laps. Capello’s best time was a 1:55.119. Of course, no one expects that to be race pace.
