STCC: Volkswagen makes history with biogas power

Volkswagen celebrated a historic victory in the Swedish Touring Car Championship (STCC): from the pole position, Fredrik Ekblom (S) won the series’ second round at Karlskoga in the biogas-powered Scirocco CNG. His team colleague Patrik Olsson (S) completed the good result with a fifth-place finish. The second race, as well, had a positive outcome for Volkswagen: Ekblom and Olsson took places six and seven. At the Dakar Rally Volkswagen had made history with alternative power as well after having been the the first manufacturer, in 2009, to have won the automobile classification with a diesel engine and repeating this triumph in 2010. STCC: Volkswagen Scirocco biogas among top 10

At the second fielding of the new Volkswagen Scirocco powered by biogas in the Swedish Touring Car Championship (STCC) the Swede Frederik Ekblom finished in tenth and ninth place, thus barely missing points.

Patrik Olsson (S), who drives a 280-hp Scirocco powered by eco-friendly biogas as well, achieved solid mid-field positions in both races at Karlskoga.

The newly developed Volkswagen Scirocco Biogas celebrated a successful race debut in the season opener of the Swedish Touring Car Championship (STCC).

Fredrik Ekblom and Patrik Olsson each drove one of the near 280 hp Sciroccos, which are powered by innovative Biogas, through both races at Mantorp Park and finished in strong midfield positions at the end. With ninth place in the second race Ekblom narrowly missed a points scoring finish.

STCC: Weight list for the season premiere

Due to the Volkswagen Scirocco running a turbocarged bio gas engine it will get another 30 kilos added.

The first weight list for the Swedish Touring Car Championship 2009 has been released. The weights span from 1200 kilos, the two bio gas Volkswagen Scirocco’s, to 1135, the Peugeot 308. For the first race no penalty weights are applied, only the base weight.
