Flying Lizard's Marco Holzer Takes First ALMS Career Pole at Road America

Flying Lizard locked out the front row today for the Road America Road Race Showcase with a one/two GT qualifying finish. Marco Holzer took his first ALMS career pole in the No. 44 Flying Lizard Porsche with a time of 2:04.415, a new track record. Joerg Bergmeister was just 1/100 of a second back in P2 in the No. 45 with a time of 2:04.428. It is the first pole for the No. 44 since 2004. The Lizards head to the heartland this week for Saturday’s Mid-Ohio Sports Car Challenge, the sixth event on the 10-race ALMS schedule. The driver lineup for the race is Joerg Bergmeister and Patrick Long in the No. 45 Flying Lizard Porsche 911 GT3 RSR and Marco Holzer and Seth Neiman in the No. 44. Team Falken take chances on tires at Lime Rock Park

Round 4 of the American Le Mans Series presented by Patron was a bittersweet event for the Team Falken Tire. Accelerated shoulder wear on the left rear tire due to heavy load forced the team to pit and change tires more often than expected, costing the team the opportunity to move up through the GT field. The team stayed ahead of four other cars to finish seventh in the GT class.

Marco Holzner sets no44 on first row at Lime Rock Park

Patrick Long brought the No. 45 in fourth with a time of 51.483 in today’s GT qualifying for the 2012 Northeast Grand Prix, which gets the green flag this Saturday, July 7 at Lime Rock Park. In the No. 44 Flying Lizard Porsche, Marco Holzer clocked the second fastest GT time of 51.299 in the qualifying session but the car did not meet the ride height minimum during post-qualifying technical inspection. As a result, the No. 44 will start from the rear of the grid. The No. 55 BMW is on the GT pole.

Joerg Bergmeister and Porsche – it’s been a constant in the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patron since 2002. For more than half of his ALMS career, Bergmeister’s erstwhile partner in Porsches has been Patrick Long. So as the tall German’s 100th ALMS start approaches, there is no one better to salute him than Long, who has been a part of three of Bergmeister’s five ALMS GT championships…

After an awesome 12 Hours of Sebring and roughly a month off, it’s back to green for the American Le Mans Series. Now on the opposite “coast”, the teams no take on the streets of Long Beach. Last year, we saw Corvette and BMW going at it in GT with BMW coming out on top. The same was said for Sebring. Obviously, we are rooting for Porsche come the GT war.

Team Falken Tire resilient at the 12 Hours of Sebring

Team Falken Tire laid it all out on the table during Saturdays 60th running of the 12 Hours of Sebring. During the week, Team Falken had some strong practice runs with a 4th and 6th. The other days were not as high but showed pace. The week leading up to raceday also showed no signs of engine troubles.

Raceday is here with a morning warmup from 8:00-8:25AM. At roughly 8:20, all hell broke lose with an engine failure. While out shooting the warmup, we saw a tweet about smoke coming from the rear of the Falken 911 GT3 RSR. We immediately headed to the paddock to find out what went wrong. We asked Falken’s Nick Fousekis (Director of Motorsports Marketing) if there were any indicators, he shook his head in disbelief and said no.
