Audi has made a successful start to the Michelin Challenge Bibendum 2010. Right at the start of this forum for sustainable mobility in Rio de Janeiro, the brand with the four rings recorded two victories. Audi is very proud of these two main prizes – overall victory in the rally with the lightweight A5, and the design award for the Audi e-tron electric sports car. The standard version of the A3 1.6 TDI, the brand’s third model in the Challenge Bibendum, also put in an outstanding performance. In recognition of Audi’s 100th birthday, the company with the four rings will once again invest considerably in its future. Earthwork operations for a key construction project in the northern sector of Audi’s Ingolstadt site will begin in late October. More than €100 million will be invested in a new body-manufacturing shop for the Audi A3.

Don’t let the ‘Street’ designation fool you, though. This is effectively a front-wheel drive S3 track car, complete with lightweight wheels, vented bodywork for improved airflow and an interior decked out with a roll cage, racing seats and harnesses. The only feature that makes this car ‘street’ over its Nurburgring 24-hour siblings is the extra seat in the cockpit and the distinct lack of sponsor decals on the exterior.
