In the second practice session from Bathurst, the second Audi R8 LMS topped the charts. Marc Basseng was the only driver to drop under the 2:12 mark, leading the Wilson Security – Shannons Porsche GT3 Cup S and the Audi Australia R8 LMS in third. The 2011 motorsport season opens with a genuine highlight for Audi: On February 6, Audi race experience Team Joest contests the 12-hour race at Bathurst with two Audi R8 LMS cars. The event at Australia’s most famous race track rings in the extended program for the AUDI AG GT3 sportscar.
The customer sport program started in 2009 with the Audi R8 LMS was restructured for the 2011 season. Further development of the Audi R8 LMS, sales and marketing of the cars and the technical support for customers and importer teams worldwide were transferred to the quattro GmbH. Alexandre Premat was hoping to make a speedy recovery and make the final DTM race at Shanghai. Unfortunately, his last was also his final race for Audi. In turn, Chinese driver, Darryl O’Young will step in and replace Premat. If you recall, Darryl drove along side Frank Biela and Marco Werner during the 12hr of Sepang. Six years after its last motorsport commitment in China with the DTM, Audi returns to the “Middle Kingdom.” Audi Sport Team Joest will field two Audi R15 TDI cars at the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup (ILMC) finale at Zhuhai on November 7.
