The American-owned team claimed two, top-10 placings in the two final rounds of the 12-race series which began in May – just two months after the American-owned, British-based outfit was formed – at the historic 2.492-mile track in Heusden-Zolder near Brussels.
United Autosports, which will contest the 2011 FIA GT3 European Championship with two Audi R8 LMS sports cars, finished 12th in the FIA GT3 Teams Championship. The Austrian Lechner Racing team couldn’t had hoped for a better race debut of their brand-new Audi R8 LMS: with the Audi customer sports car to GT3 regulations, Philip König, Niki Mayr-Melnhof, Thomas Gruber and Walter Lechner jr. won the 12H of Hungary, the twelve-hour race for GTs, touring cars and 24h specials, organised by Dutch agency, CREVENTIC. The four drivers completed a total of 355 laps at the 4.381 kilometres long Grand Prix circuit near the Hungarian capital of Budapest. With clear blue skies and bright sunshine the final weekend of the 2010 FIA GT3 European Championship got underway at Zolder in Belgium with the first 60-minute Free Practice session. The nr4 Team Rosberg Audi R8 LMS of Gregoire Demoustier and Michael Ammermueller set the fastest time of the session with a lap of 1:31.321, 0.9 seconds quicker than the rest of the GT3 field. After three races in Francorchamps, including two consecutive wins for the Audi R8 LMS Grégory Franchi and Anthony Kumpen, the Belcar Endurance Championship is getting ready for the end of a season twice, on the Zolder circuit. Before the grand finale of “10 Hours of Zolder,” Saturday, November 13, the Belcar happen this weekend with the prologue of the European Championship FIA-GT3. Franchi, Kumpen and dream to continue their winning ways while their teammates Francois Verbist and Bert Longin hope to retain their leadership in the championship. With two wins at the ADAC GT Masters season finale at Oschersleben Team ABT Sportsline secured the title in the team classification. After having qualified 1-2, the WRT Audi R8 LMS cars were dropped to 11th and 12th places on the grid. The cause? Being late scrutineering on Saturday night. That obviously didn’t sit well with the team because they took the lead 95 laps into the race and never looked back. Gregory Guilvert gave Audi its first pole position of 2010 when the nr5 Sainteloc-Phoenix Racing Audi R8 posted a time of 1:45.423, just 0.037 seconds ahead of Maxime Martin in the Marc VDS Racing Ford GT. The second row of the grid will be an all Audi affair with nr33 Black Falcon Audi R8 of Jan Seyffarth 0.098s ahead of the Team Rosberg Audi of Michael Ammermueller.
