The Chattanooga, Tennessee-built Volkswagen Passat has earned yet another distinct recognition during this, its first year on sale. In addition to being awarded top-rated premium mid-size car in the Autobytel and AutoPacific 2012 Vehicle Satisfaction Awards, the Passat was also recognized as the Most Ideal Premium Mid-Size Car for 2012 as part of AutoPacific’s New Vehicle Satisfaction Survey. The world’s most fuel-efficient couple has done it again. John and Helen Taylor were determined to break the record for the farthest distance traveled on a single tank of fuel. They decided to attempt the record in the U.S. with a stock 2012 Volkswagen Passat SE TDI Clean Diesel vehicle equipped with a six-speed manual transmission. The previous record for the most miles covered on a single tank of diesel was 1526.6 miles, achieved with a VW Passat 1.6 BlueMotion® diesel in Europe. Volkswagen is pressing U.S. regulators to change a proposal to double auto fuel efficiency, arguing the plan puts it at a competitive disadvantage and unfairly de-emphasizes clean diesel engines.
Volkswagen did not sign onto an agreement backed by virtually every other major U.S. and overseas car company that underpinned the Obama administration proposal on Wednesday to boost efficiency targets to 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025. Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam has awarded Volkswagen Group of America, Chattanooga Operations the 2011 Governor’s Environmental Stewardship Award for Building Green. The award recognizes the many green building initiatives that Volkswagen Chattanooga incorporated into the manufacturing facility which opened in May of this year.
