Filipe Albuquerque / WeatherTech Racing Audi R8 qualify sixth for Rolex 24 at Daytona

Filipe Albuquerque, of Portugal, will start the No. 24 WeatherTech Racing Audi R8 from the third row on the GT grid when the green flag drops for this weekend’s 51st GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series Rolex 24 at Daytona.

Albuquerque’s fastest lap (1:48.282, 118.358 mph) came on his fifth trip around the 12-turn, 3.56-mile Daytona modified oval track. Overall, he was happy with the car’s performance and the fact that the No. 24 WeatherTech Racing Audi was the fastest Audi in Rolex GT heading into Saturday’s race. As expected, the fight for the pole position on the 2.3-kilometer city street circuit between the Dutzendteich Lake and the easyCredit Stadium turned into a battle for thousandths of a second. While in the last free practice session in the morning the quickest twelve cars were within just two tenths of a second the time gaps were again minimal in qualifying in the afternoon with 35 degrees in the shade and track temperatures of more than 50 degrees.

Edoardo Mortara has secured his first ever DTM pole for the fourth round at the Red Bull Ring, Austria. It was Audi’s Mattias Ekstrom who laid down the first time of 1:27.173. Preparations for the DTM season are almost finished. What do you like the most about the new Audi A5 DTM?

I prefer the new Audi A5 DTM to the previous A4 DTM. My feeling is that the handling really suits me. It has more grip that its predecessor. So far I’ve tested the car at Valencia and at Hockenheim. However, it’s also clear that with such a completely new design like the A5 DTM we still have to get to know it better in certain situations and how it behaves with specific circuit peculiarities to be able to judge it exactly.
