The Belgian team will enter three Audi R8 LMS ultra – in 2013 specifications – in both the Blancpain Endurance Series and the FIA GT Series. In the new sprint series launched by SRO, Swedish driver Edward Sandstrom will partner with Germany’s Frank Stippler, while another car will be driven by Belgium’s Laurens Vanthoor and Monaco’s Stephane Ortelli. These two line-ups composed of drivers who are already part of the WRT family will be joined by a third duo, entered in the Pro-Am category, composed of Nikolaus Mayr-Melnhof from Austria and Germany’s Rene Rast, explains Belgian Audi Club Team WRT team principal Vincent Vosse. Rene has repeatedly confirmed in recent years that he is a top GT driver and Nikolaus has done an excellent season with Vita4One last year. The pair can certainly aim at the Pro-Am title! Our objective as a team is to do better than the third place conquered in 2012. Continue reading ‘Belgian Audi Club Team WRT confirms 2013 programs’

Audi testing R18H LMP1 for 2012

Audi testing R18H LMP1 at Sebring -

Once again Audi has shown up at Sebring, testing the next evolution of their LMP entry. However this time it wasn’t such a secret. The first hint was the exif data in the shots from Paul Ricard. Taken in November, the description read “Test Audi R18H”. Changes to the R18H are not so obvious but a lot is going on. The overall appearance seems to be smoothed out. Hard edges are gone, the nose is now piercing and suggestions of the tub structure changing. Mulsannes Corner has an excellent breakdown on the new R18H.

Look for Audi to announce full details and driver line-ups in January. Continue reading ‘Audi testing R18H LMP1 for 2012′

Four-Times Monte Carlo Winner dominates European Championship Race

Walter Röhrl has won the race for the FIA European Rally Championship for Historical Cars in the Spanish town of Lloret de Mar last weekend. Teaming up with co-pilot Peter Göbel, German Rally Champion in 2002, 2004, 2005, and 2006, the two-times World Rally Champion drove a 1981 Porsche 911 RSR to victory. With their re-built and perfectly prepared rally version of the 911, Röhrl/Göbel immediately moved up to the top group in the race, together with ex-Renault works driver Jean Ragnotti in an Alpine A110, Historical European Championship specialist Michael Stoschek, Valter Jensen and Toto Riolo, all driving a Porsche 911, and three Group 4 Lancia Stratos. Under very difficult weather and track conditions, Röhrl clearly demonstrated his unique driving skills as the four-times Monte Carlo winner on the last two stages of the race, bringing home an historical victory for Wolfgang Reile’s Classic Power Team in the very special style of the truly outstanding driver who also won the European Rally Championship in 1974.

WTCC: A new start for SEAT in Valencia

WTCC: A new start for SEAT in Valencia

The Spanish leg of the World Touring Car Championship is being held this weekend on Valencia’s Cheste track, where SEAT Sport hopes to get the results that are worthy of all the work they have put in, despite modifications introduced by the FIA on how the technical rules are applied, that have penalised the SEAT León TDI.

The reduction of the turbo pressure limit to 2.5 bars (with no tolerance) at the race held in Pau left the team with no chance of being competitive after the drastic power loss compared to the previous races, where the limit was 2.9 bars. For the Valencia race, the FIA established a new turbo pressure limit of 2.7 bars, and this decision was known seven days before verifications were made. Despite the short lead-time, SEAT Sport has worked hard to adapt their cars to the new application of the rules.
