The 2011 American Le Mans Series season comes to a close this weekend at the 14th Annual Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta. The ALMS flagship race gets the green flag on Saturday, October 1 at 11:30 am ET; the race runs a maximum of 1000 miles or 10 hours. In the No. 45 Flying Lizard Porsche Joerg Bergmeister and Patrick Long who will be joined by Patrick Pilet, also a Porsche factory driver. Pilet fills in for scheduled guest driver Marc Lieb, who due to last minute travel issues cannot participate. In the No. 44, Darren Law, Seth Neiman, and Marco Holzer will team up. The trio last raced together at Sebring in March; Law and Holzer have traded off driving duties with Neiman over the season. The title defenders are back: With the first victory of the season under their belts, Porsche works drivers Joerg Bergmeister (Germany) and Patrick Long (USA) travel with optimism to the final round of the American Le Mans Series on 1 October on the time-honored Road Atlanta circuit. At the 1,000 mile classic in the US State of Georgia, the Laguna Seca winners aim to conclude the season with another success with their Porsche 911 GT3 RSR. One of their strongest rivals comes from their own camp: Porsche factory pilot Wolf Henzler (Germany) has already notched up two victories so far this season from Mid-Ohio and Baltimore. The American Le Mans Series has gained yet another attraction: On 3 September, the new urban street circuit of Baltimore in the US state of Maryland plays host to the race series with the world’s fastest sports car. Joining the action are Porsche works drivers and title defenders Joerg Bergmeister (Germany) and Patrick Long (USA), who are eager to claim their second podium result this season with the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR. Their factory pilot colleague Wolf Henzler (Germany), winner of the Mid-Ohio race, is also justifiably hopeful for a top result. Seamless pit work and two late race passes secured the GT win today for the Flying Lizard No. 45 Flying Lizard Porsche of Joerg Bergmeister and Patrick Long at Long Beach; a repeat for the duo, who won this race in 2009. The No. 44 was retired at the halfway point due to mechanical issues. The No. 45 Porsche also won the Michelin Green X Challenge for the GT entry operating at the highest efficiency with the lowest environmental impact. (continue reading…)
Long and Bergmeister Win at Long Beach – 2nd Straight Year
Patrick Long and Jörg Bergmeister teamed to take a spectacular victory at the Tequila Patrón American Le Mans Series at Long Beach Saturday, after Long drove a blistering stint and raised himself from 3rd in class to 1st with two well-executed passes. Bergmeister started the race in the #45 Flying Lizard Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, fought through intense traffic and handed the car off to Patrick in 4th. (continue reading…)

American Le Mans Series, round 1 in Sebring, USA
A successful start to the American Le Mans Series season for Porsche: At the Sebring 12 hour race, Porsche clinched two victories with the Porsche RS Spyder in the sports prototype LMP2 class and the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR in the environmental classification, the Michelin Green X Challenge. The sports car from Weissach proved to be the vehicle that demonstrated the best overall efficiency and fuel consumption at the long distance classic in Florida. (continue reading…)
