A great win for Atlanta, GA! As we reported yesterday about PCNA’s office move, it is now official. Early this morning, Detlev von Platen, president and CEO of Porsche Cars North America met with Mayor Reed to announce the deal. Porsche Cars North America to create $100 million HQ with track on the old Ford site. Other Georgia locations and even states competed for the highly decorated brand. von Platen also described the move as being much more than just headquarters.
Complete with a 1.6 mile testing track, it will bring in roughly 20,000 extra visits from its customers.
Long time Atlanta residents, Porsche Cars North America is rumored to be moving its location to the old Ford plant site just outside of Hartsfield-Atlanta International Airport. In 1998, PCNA moved its offices from Reno, NV to Atlanta, GA. The plant was where the Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable were built. In 2006, Ford closed the plant and it has since been leveled. Audi is about to roll out Audi Connect, an infotainment system that combines an in-vehicle Wi-Fi link with what amounts to a navigation system on steroids.
Audi Connect debuts in the 2012 Audi A7 this spring. It will be available on the 2012 A8 this summer and optional on the 2012 A6 sedan when it goes on sale this fall.
Volkswagen AG, Europe’s biggest automaker, passed rival Ford Motor Co. in the auto industry earnings race last year on surging demand in China.
Net income surged sevenfold to 6.84 billion euros ($9.42 billion), the Wolfsburg-based company said Feb. 25. Ford posted 2010 profit of $6.56 billion, while General Motors Co. reported $4.7 billion. Frank Kechele and Ricardo Zonta recorded the first FIA GT1 World Championship win for Lamborghini in Round 5 at Spa-Francorchamps, finishing ahead of the Triple H Team Hegersport Maserati of Altfrid Heger and Alex Muller and the Matech Competition Ford GT Matech of Thomas Mutsch and reigning FIA GT2 Champion Richard Westbrook. In 2003, he was even able – to everyone’s surprise – to put this race under his belt as he had with his teammates in a Porsche in the second category. For this 62nd edition of the Total 24 Hours of Spa, the Belgian team will join Stephen W Racing Team.
