Following two successful seasons, the ultra-competitive Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo will return to the track for the start of the 2011 season. A field consisting solely of the iconic Italian marque’s Super Trofeo race cars will do battle in the season opener at Monza, Italy, on 16-17 April.
With six race meetings across a selection of the most demanding circuits in Europe, including Spa-Francorchamps and Paul Ricard HTTT, the series will see a grid of both professional and ‘gentlemen’ drivers take to the track behind the wheel of a Super Trofeo race car, a lightweight version of the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4. Volkswagen Group has been on a tear in the past few days in Qatar. Bugatti shows the Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport, Lamborghini and their Gallardo LP 560-4 Bicolore and now the Touareg Gold Edition complete with 24-carat gold inside and out. Over 100 Lamborghini cars past and present, and their drivers, gathered in Switzerland this weekend, 18 to 20 June, in a dynamic celebration of the marque. Owners from across the world joined ‘Lamborghini St. Moritz 2010’, supported by Lamborghini dealerships and clubs, to celebrate the House of the Raging Bull with a driving programme that included a route through the scenic Julierpass and Fluelapass to Davos. Rumors have been circulating around that we could see a successors to the Gallardo family come March. While some are saying an increase of 10hp, new suspension work and exterior design modifications will be the highlights, we hope to see a bit more. Customers could see theirs by next May. On top of that, a LP590-2 SV could be net in 2011.
Back in 2007 Automobili Lamborghini SpA unveiled a rather special Gallardo in Geneva, the Superleggera, a race bred version of the well known V10 model that shed some weight and became an instant success. It was only available in a small selection of colors and it was rather sparsely finished on the inside, however the full carbon fiber door panels and Alcantara loops instead of handles to close the doors were highly welcomed … in total the Superleggera lost 100 Kg in the process and gained 10 Bhp.
