These two models join the Audi A3 in achieving the highest safety recognition granted by the influential IIHS. Volkswagen Tiguan receives more five stars at the highest level
  • Safety at the highest level: another five stars for the Tiguan
  • US-NCAP confirms first-class results from Europe
  • Top values also in roof stability test from IIHS

The Tiguan is not only one of the most popular, but also one of the safest vehicles in its segment: once more the high level of competence at Volkswagen in the field of safety has been confirmed by top results in three independent crash test procedures.

The incredible effectiveness of the passive safety systems in the Tiguan was confirmed by independent testers in the USA and in Europe: the Tiguan was awarded the top value of five stars in July by the American NCAP (New Car Assessment Program). Three areas of safety were assessed by the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration): the front crash, the side crash and rollover stability. In the front and side crash, the Tiguan, Europe’s most popular SUV, was awarded five stars each for the categories occupant protection for the driver and front passenger, and four stars for rollover safety. The risk of injury was assessed as being very low in all cases.

The latest Audi models have garnered top ratings for safety in four prestigious tests. The Audi A4 and Q5 achieved a top five-star rating in the new and more stringent Euro New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) safety tests. The U.S. National Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA) confirmed this outstanding collision performance and gave both cars a five-star rating in all categories. In addition, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), a U.S. consumer protection organization, proclaimed the Audi Q5 its ‘Top Safety Pick’ – the best buy when it comes to safety.

The Volkswagen Tiguan was rated one of the top small SUVs in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) new Roof Strength safety-test. Roof strength is a key factor in protecting vehicle occupants in a vehicle rollover — vehicles rated “Good’ must have roofs that are more than twice as strong as minimum federal safety standards require.

The Audi Q7, a luxury performance SUV, earned the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) Top Safety Pick award for 2008. The 2008 Q7 received a “good” rating in all three crash tests: side impact, offset frontal and rear impact seat tests. In addition to the Q7, three Audi car models – the A3, A4 and A6 – have also been recognized as Top Safety Picks in 2008, earning Audi the most Top Safety Pick designations for 2008 models of any luxury automaker this year.
