The first round of the 2013 GRAND-AM Continental Sports Car Challenge would be one of missed opportunity for the pair of BGB Motorsports Porsche Carreras, which showed the speed to run at the front of the field but would ultimately be held back with penalties in pit lane.

The no. 38 BGB / CalciumPro Porsche Carrera of Dr. Jim Norman and Spencer Pumpelly was involved in a big incident during Thursday’s qualifying, when the Ford Mustang driven by Jack Roush, Jr. made contact with Norman in the chicane, causing the Porsche to sustain heavy damage. The team would work throughout the night to repair bodywork and suspension damage on the front of the Porsche, and Norman would have to start the race at the back of the GS field.
