
Porsche works pilots Joerg Bergmeister and Patrick Pilet planted their Porsche 911 RSR on the sixth grid spot in the GTE-Pro class. For Saturday’s race, they share the cockpit of the no91 car with Timo Bernhard. Their works driver colleagues Marc Lieb and Romain Dumas take up the race one position behind them. The internet was a buzz with Porsche testing at Sebring today. Earlier, we brought you the exclusive shots from the track. While it was rumored that Porsche might be testing the newest 911 member, it was never really known. Porsche has now come out with an official release and confirmed some of our earlier statements. Porsche AG Team Manthey will contest the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the FIA WEC Series. Richard Lietz and Patrick Pilet shared driving duties today. Porsche AG fields two new 911 RSR based on the 991 model generation at this year’s Le Mans 24 Hours and in the World Endurance Championship. Entry for the newly developed vehicles sporting the starting numbers 91 and 92 was confirmed for the GTE class by the organizers ACO and FIA today in Paris. Nick Tandy wins a contract as a Porsche works driver. The 28-year-old from Great Britain is now the tenth of the by now nine-member driver squad with Joerg Bergmeister, Timo Bernhard, Romain Dumas, Wolf Henzler, Marco Holzer, Marc Lieb, Richard Lietz, Patrick Long and Patrick Pilet. The Lizards picked up some much-needed season momentum with a second-place finish at the most recent ALMS race at Mid-Ohio August 4th. Bergmeister and Long are now fifth in the 2012 ALMS GT drivers’ championship with 55 points. Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner of the No. 4 Corvette lead with 93 points. The Lizards are fourth in the team championship with 66 points; Corvette Racing leads with 114 points. There are 88 points possible left in the season. Patrick Long and Joerg Bergmeister brought the No. 45 in for the GT win at today’s Northeast Grand Prix at Lime Rock Park. It’s the first win – and the first podium finish – for the Lizards this year. It’s the team’s fifth win at Lime Rock since 2004. Sister Porsche No. 44 finished ninth in class in the 2 hour and 45 minute race.

The Lizards are back in the U.S. for round four of the ALMS season, the 2012 Northeast Grand Prix, which gets the green flag this Saturday, July 7 at Lime Rock Park. The Lime Rock race follows closely on the heels of the 24 Heures du Mans, in which the Lizards finished fourth in GTE Am in the No. 79 Porsche (read the Le Mans race report). For this Saturday’s race, the driver lineup will be Joerg Bergmeister and Patrick Long in the No. 45 Flying Lizard Porsche and Seth Neiman and Marco Holzer in the No. 44.
