AUDI AG has achieved another technological milestone in motorsport. On the 80th running of the famous Le Mans 24 Hours, a vehicle with hybrid drive – the Audi R18 e-tron quattro – has triumphed for the first time.

Around 200,000 spectators witnessed a fascinating race with the drama and incidents that are typical for Le Mans plus an impressive demonstration of “Vorsprung durch Technik.” The four Audi R18 cars from Audi Sport Team Joest were the quickest and most reliable vehicles and after 24 hours occupied positions one, two, three and five. No disrespect to Toyota but it was somewhat of a given that Audi would be at the top in most sessions leading up to the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Wednesday’s qualifying session was quite eventful and we did see the two petrol powered Toyota TS030 Hybrid on pace but it was the new Audi R18 e-tron quattro on provisional pole.

The 2011 24 Hours of Le Mans winner, Andre Lotterer, set a time of 3:25.453s late into the first qualifying session last night. This time was slower than his 3:25.163 earlier in the practice session but was .285s faster than last years pole. Lotterer will share the no1 Audi R18 e-tron quattro with Marcel Fassler and Benoit Treluyer. Continue reading ‘Provisional pole for Andre Lotterer in Audi R18 e-tron quattro at Le Mans’

In the center of the city of Le Mans, Audi completed the scrutineering process for the 24-hour race in the presence of a large crowd.

Prepared for Le Mans: Audi Sport Team Joest completed scrutineering for the Le Mans 24 Hours as early as on the Sunday before the race. The two Audi R18 e-tron quattro and the two R18 ultra cars perfectly passed the technical inspection. The unusually early scrutineering date, however, meant that three Audi drivers were not on hand this time and will present themselves a day later. Marc Gené’s accident from Le Mans test day

Insane flip coming off of the Porsche Curves.

The ACO has released the cctv video of Marc Gené’s accident today at the exit of the Porsche Curves. The car gets sideways and starts a flight very similar to those seen at Monza from Creation and Oreca. While this video is bound to reopen the discussion on safety we thought it important to share it with our readers.
