
Porsche works pilots Joerg Bergmeister and Patrick Pilet planted their Porsche 911 RSR on the sixth grid spot in the GTE-Pro class. For Saturday’s race, they share the cockpit of the no91 car with Timo Bernhard. Their works driver colleagues Marc Lieb and Romain Dumas take up the race one position behind them. Porsche AG fields two new 911 RSR based on the 991 model generation at this year’s Le Mans 24 Hours and in the World Endurance Championship. Entry for the newly developed vehicles sporting the starting numbers 91 and 92 was confirmed for the GTE class by the organizers ACO and FIA today in Paris. Nick Tandy wins a contract as a Porsche works driver. The 28-year-old from Great Britain is now the tenth of the by now nine-member driver squad with Joerg Bergmeister, Timo Bernhard, Romain Dumas, Wolf Henzler, Marco Holzer, Marc Lieb, Richard Lietz, Patrick Long and Patrick Pilet. Less than four minutes were missing for Porsche to clinch its 99th class win at the Le Mans 24 Hours. With the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR fielded by the IMSA Performance Matmut team, Frenchman Nicolas Armindo, Raymond Narac and Anthony Pons had led the field just a few laps before the flag dropped on the 80th running of the long distance classic in the Sarthe. But in the final minutes, tyre damage robbed the 2011-spec 911 of all hopes for victory. Nevertheless, the joy over second place was huge for the French Porsche customer team. Earlier this week, Flying Lizard Motorsports announced that Patrick Pilet would fill in for Darren Law. With Law out due to scheduling conflicts, Pilet would share the no79 Porsche 911 GT3 RSR with Seth Neiman and Atlanta’s Spencer Pumpelly.

The Le Mans 24 hour race is legendary and is the greatest challenge that motorsport has to offer. Many Porsche customer teams from Europe and the USA will tackle the 80th running of this long distance classic in the Sarthe department on 16/17 June. Porsche works drivers and double Le Mans class winners Marc Lieb (Germany) and Richard Lietz (Austria) will also be racing for points in the new World Endurance Championship with the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR fielded by Felbermayr-Proton. In the newly-introduced top 40 qualifying, Porsche works driver Marc Lieb (Germany) secured a good starting position for the 40th running of the Nurburgring 24 hour race with sixth place. Lieb shares the cockpit of the 911 GT3 R (Wochenspiegel Team Manthey) with fellow factory pilots Richard Lietz (Austria) and Romain Dumas (France) as well as racing professional Lucas Luhr (Germany).
