The 2012 Rolex 24 At Daytona is shaping up to be a great one, especially in the GT class. With the Audi R8 Grand-Am making its debut and Ferrari now in the mix, the fans are in for a show. The Audi R8 LMS won the most important endurance race for GT cars ahead of BMW and Mercedes-Benz. Audi Sport Team WRT overcame the strongest competition during the 63rd running of the 24 hours of Spa (Belgium). The two DTM stars Mattias Ekstrom (Sweden) and Timo Scheider (Germany) and the Belgian endurance specialist Greg Franchi shared driving duties in the victorious mid-engine sportscar. Weather seems to always come into play at Spa. However, it decided to cooperate a bit for the first qualifying session for the 24 Hours of Spa. Coming off a three weekend win streak, can Audi make it four in a row? From the incredible Le Mans 24 Hour win, DTM Lausitzring win and a 1-2-3 podium sweep yesterday at the Nurburgring 24 Hour. Both Timo Bernhard and Marcel Fassler were on the podium as well and will race at Imola.

The race at Lausitz was full of action with many changes in positions. How did you experience your return to the DTM?
I had a very good start and was running on the outside line. At that time I could have already been behind a Mercedes and Martin Tomczyk. But I was careful because I saw ‘Eki’ in my mirrors. The strategy was perfect; only the last pit stop was a bit long. That’s why I dropped behind Jamie Green. That could have still become interesting because a few cars were passing me. This morning, Audi employees were treated to the sights and stealth like sounds of the Le Mans winning no2 Audi R18 TDI.
