
In today’s 15-minute qualifying session for the American Le Mans Monterey race, Spencer Pumpelly claimed the 4th spot on the class grid in the No. 45 Flying Lizard Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car, with Dion von Moltke taking the 6th spot in the sister No. 44 for tomorrow’s 4-hour race. Seth Neiman will turn his first race laps since last year’s Petit Le Mans as he takes the start in the No. 45, with Pierre Ehret starting the No. 44. The No. 44 will race with a two-driver lineup of Dion and Pierre with the No. 45 adding Nelson Canache Jr. along with Spencer and Seth. Racing season is on! Earlier today, the American Le Mans Series kicked off 2013 with the annual two day winter test sessions at Sebring. Fifteen entries were scheduled to show up with six of those flying the Porsche flag.

Flying Lizard Motorsports will begin its 2013 ALMS GTC campaign later this week at the ALMS Winter Test at Sebring Raceway in Florida, utilizing two full days of testing on February 7th and 8th. The team will test its new 2013 No. 44 Flying Lizard Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car, running three drivers through the car: Spencer Pumpelly, Nelson Canache Jr., and Archie Hamilton. With the rain falling steadily at the start of the BMW Performance 200, APR Motorsport made the calculated decision to start their cars at the back of their respective fields. With 81 cars starting in the CTSCC race in the rain at Daytona – split between the GS and ST classes – the team was betting on a fair amount of opening-lap carnage and chose to keep its rookie drivers clear of the inevitable carnage. Augmenting the previously announced no. 41 APR Tuned Audi S4 for Ian Baas and Nelson Canache in the GS class, as well as the no. 171 APR Tuned VW GTI for Aleks Altberg and David Cheng, the team will add three additional VW’s in the ST class for the 2012 season, beginning with this Friday’s BMW Performance 200 at Daytona International Speedway. The team will add yet another car to the lineup beginning with the series’ second race at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama, bringing the team’s CTSCC total to six cars and making APR Motorsport, along with its entry in the Rolex Series, the largest team this season in GRAND-AM.
