The Belgian team will enter three Audi R8 LMS ultra – in 2013 specifications – in both the Blancpain Endurance Series and the FIA GT Series. In the new sprint series launched by SRO, Swedish driver Edward Sandstrom will partner with Germany’s Frank Stippler, while another car will be driven by Belgium’s Laurens Vanthoor and Monaco’s Stephane Ortelli. These two line-ups composed of drivers who are already part of the WRT family will be joined by a third duo, entered in the Pro-Am category, composed of Nikolaus Mayr-Melnhof from Austria and Germany’s Rene Rast, explains Belgian Audi Club Team WRT team principal Vincent Vosse. Rene has repeatedly confirmed in recent years that he is a top GT driver and Nikolaus has done an excellent season with Vita4One last year. The pair can certainly aim at the Pro-Am title! Our objective as a team is to do better than the third place conquered in 2012. Continue reading ‘Belgian Audi Club Team WRT confirms 2013 programs’

Audi confirms 2012 DTM driver lineup

Mike Rockenfeller, Timo Scheider, Rahel Frey, Edoardo Mortara, Miguel Molina, Filipe Albuquerque, Mattias Ekstrom

At Audi, the current DTM Champion, the “title defense” project is running at full stretch. A week before the homologation of the new Audi A5 DTM on March 1 the drivers and their assignment to the total of three Audi factory teams have been confirmed.

New car, new technology, new rules – particularly because the season opener at the Hockenheimring on April 29 is bringing a lot of changes to the most popular international touring car racing series and ringing in a completely new era in the DTM, Audi, the 1990, 1991, 2002, 2004, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2011 DTM Champion, is banking on continuity. The long-standing partner teams, ABT Sportsline, Phoenix Racing and Team Rosberg, are fielding the seven Audi A5 DTM cars and the drivers taking the wheel of the seven Audi A5 DTM vehicles at the Hockenheim season opener on April 29 are well-known quantities too. Quotes from Audi after qualifying at DTM Norisring

DTM Norisring Audi Motorsport

Mattias Ekstrom was the best Audi driver in qualifying for the DTM race at the Norisring. Quotes from the Audi camp after the battle for thousandths of a second.

Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich (Head of Audi Motorsport)

“Qualifying didn’t go according to our expectations. At the Norisring we’re traditionally having a difficult time – and that was again the case in today’s qualifying although the times were very close together. Small things made the difference and we didn’t manage to get everything perfectly right. ‘Eki’ at least made it into the top four. But the race isn’t until tomorrow. We’ll be giving everything.” Continue reading ‘Quotes from Audi after qualifying at DTM Norisring’

Mattias Ekstrom 4th in qualifying at DTM Norisring

DTM Norisring Audi Ekstrom

Once again, Audi has a tough one ahead of them this weekend at the Norisring. This is their home circuit and they have not won here since 2002. Laurent Aiello was the winner of that race driving the no1 Abt-Audi TT-R.

The weekend started off pretty good for Audi with a 1-2 in the first practice session on Friday. Top three cars in the 48’s. The second test proved to be pretty good with a 4-5-6-7 and all eighteen cars in the 48’s. Wow. Continue reading ‘Mattias Ekstrom 4th in qualifying at DTM Norisring’
