FIA GT1 teams set for Algarve roller-coaster ride

The battle of the brands resumes in Portugal next weekend when the fifth round of the FIA GT1 World Championship takes place at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve.

The undulating 4.692km (2.915 mile) circuit is known for its roller-coaster layout and provides a stern test for drivers and puts the emphasis on drivability for cars.

24H Dubai 2012 Gallery

Here’s our first set of images from the 24H Dubai. After 10+ hours of racing, we’ve seen a good number of lead changes and only one DNF from the AF Corse Ferrari. At the moment, the Mercedes SLS AMG GT3′s have been strong and running at the top for while now. Porsche has been absent from the front running but there are now 5 in the top ten. Lamborghini’s have slowly exited the top 10 but one is currently running 11th. United Autosport’s two Audi R8 GT3 LMS have been running well and currently 14/16th. Reiter Engineering on pole for both FIA GT3 races at Slovakia

After two weeks off, Rounds 9/10 of the FIA GT3 kicked off at the Slovakia Ring. With that said, Reiter Engineering headed straight to the front with pole positions in both qualifying sessions. Albert von Thurn und Taxis laid down a 02:02.058 to Federico Leo’s 02:02.059 in the Corse Ferrari 458… yes thats a difference of 0.001. Top Porsche was down in seventh and top Audi was in eleventh.

FIA GT3 heads to the Slovakia Ring circuit

FIA GT3 Slovakia Ring circuit

After four events in Portugal, Great Britain, Spain and France supporting the GT1 World Championship, the FIA GT3 European Championship now heads to a new country and a new challenge for the next two one-hour races, when it will be the headline series at the Admiral GT3 Racing Weekend in Slovakia this weekend (19-21 August 2011).

It will be the first time that the FIA GT3 European Championship has raced at the new Slovakia Ring circuit, although the championship has visited Brno in the neighboring Czech Republic twice before (2007 and 2010). Continue reading ‘FIA GT3 heads to the Slovakia Ring circuit’

24 Hours of Spa sees an Audi 1-2 in Q1

Weather seems to always come into play at Spa. However, it decided to cooperate a bit for the first qualifying session for the 24 Hours of Spa. Again, Audi Sport looked to have the pace in damp conditions. Mattias Ekstrom would end up on top with a 2:40.472 in the W Racing Team Audi R8. Reiter Lamborghini wins race one at Paul Ricard

Round 5 winners Albert von Thurn und Taxis and Nikolaus Mayr-Melnhof scored their second win of the 2011 season in emphatic style with a lights to flag victory in Round 7 at Paul Ricard. Von Thurn und Taxis, starting from Pole Position in the nr24 Reiter Engineering Lamborghini Gallardo, led the 28 car grid into the first corner and opened up a 10 second gap to the following cars by the time the pitstop window opened. The nr24 Lamborghini was the last to pit and Mayr-Melnhof took over the driving duties and he held the lead until the checkered flag. Under the hot summer sun in the South of France, the FIA GT3 European Championship took to the track for the first session of the weekend at Paul Ricard, with Round 5 winner Albert von Thurn and Taxis, in the nr24 Reiter Engineering Lamborghini Gallardo, setting the fastest time of the first Free Practice session with a lap of 2:09.307 on the 5.8km circuit.
