As expected, the fight for the pole position on the 2.3-kilometer city street circuit between the Dutzendteich Lake and the easyCredit Stadium turned into a battle for thousandths of a second. While in the last free practice session in the morning the quickest twelve cars were within just two tenths of a second the time gaps were again minimal in qualifying in the afternoon with 35 degrees in the shade and track temperatures of more than 50 degrees.

Preparations for the DTM season are almost finished. What do you like the most about the new Audi A5 DTM?
I prefer the new Audi A5 DTM to the previous A4 DTM. My feeling is that the handling really suits me. It has more grip that its predecessor. So far I’ve tested the car at Valencia and at Hockenheim. However, it’s also clear that with such a completely new design like the A5 DTM we still have to get to know it better in certain situations and how it behaves with specific circuit peculiarities to be able to judge it exactly. This is why I’m looking forward to the start of the season. Continue reading ‘Audi Sports Edoardo Mortara talks DTM’

Mattias Ekstrom was the best Audi driver in qualifying for the DTM race at the Norisring. Quotes from the Audi camp after the battle for thousandths of a second.
Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich (Head of Audi Motorsport)
“Qualifying didn’t go according to our expectations. At the Norisring we’re traditionally having a difficult time – and that was again the case in today’s qualifying although the times were very close together. Small things made the difference and we didn’t manage to get everything perfectly right. ‘Eki’ at least made it into the top four. But the race isn’t until tomorrow. We’ll be giving everything.” Continue reading ‘Quotes from Audi after qualifying at DTM Norisring’

Once again, Audi has a tough one ahead of them this weekend at the Norisring. This is their home circuit and they have not won here since 2002. Laurent Aiello was the winner of that race driving the no1 Abt-Audi TT-R.
The weekend started off pretty good for Audi with a 1-2 in the first practice session on Friday. Top three cars in the 48′s. The second test proved to be pretty good with a 4-5-6-7 and all eighteen cars in the 48′s. Wow. Continue reading ‘Mattias Ekstrom 4th in qualifying at DTM Norisring’
Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich (Head of Audi Motorsport)
“The Norisring has always been tough terrain for us in recent years. Although we often came close it never worked out completely. Maybe we’ll be able to use the many good results we’ve scored as tailwind to finally clinch victory at the Norisring – the large crowd of Audi people lining the circuit would certainly be pleased to see that. And we’ll give everything to make it happen.” Continue reading ‘DTM : Audi’s perspective as they head to Norisring’

Mike Rockenfeller has added another win to his impressive resume. In 2007 Rockenfeller became a factory Audi driver in the DTM. He joined the Audi Sport Team Rosberg. In his debut year, he would finish 12th. He would go on to place as high as 4th in the Championships in 2009. His only two podium spots would be in 2007 and 2010 claiming third in both.
With an outstanding performance, “Rocky” can now add a win to the list. Testing showed he had the speed at Zandvoort and he carried that over into qualifying. Continue reading ‘DTM: Audi’s Mike Rockenfeller wins in Zandvoort’
