Auto Union Type D Silver Arrow returns to Audi

Built more than 70 years ago, carried off 67 years ago to the former USSR, lost without trace, forgotten – and now back with Audi: the two Auto Union Type D cars dating from 1938 (in the background) and 1939.

One of the most beautiful racing cars in the history of motor sport: the Auto Union Type D twin-supercharger racing car dating from 1939 is now back at AUDI AG.

“This is one of the most emotional moments in our heritage work for AUDI AG – we have come full circle,” says Thomas Frank, Head of Audi Tradition. A few weeks ago, the car manufacturer was able to repurchase an extremely rare Auto Union Silver Arrow racing car – consisting largely of original parts. It is the Auto Union twin-supercharger Type D dating from 1939, and is one of the two legendary “Karassik cars”. AUDI AG now owns three of the five Auto Union racing cars that can claim to be original. Continue reading ‘Auto Union Type D Silver Arrow returns to Audi’

Gallery after the jump!

The biggest challenge for Volkswagen at the Silk Way Rally was themselves. The 4th place competitor was over 6 hours back in the end. However, the teams and new Race Touareg 3 were under some heavy race conditions and we even saw Giniel de Villiers flip and retire. The organizers put together a great course that included wide open straights, letting the 310hp TDI stretch its legs and deep water crossings.
