Sean Edwards wins 2013 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup opener

Britain’s Sean Edwards has won the season-opener of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. At the wheel of the Allyouneed by Project 1-run 460 hp new Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, which is based on the seventh generation of the 911, he took the flag 7.346 seconds ahead of Denmark’s Nicki Thiim (Attempto Racing), who crowned his remarkable chase through the field with second place. Lechner Racing Team pilot Michael Ammermuller (Germany) was flagged off in third. The best rookie on the Circuit de Catalunya was Porsche Junior Michael Christensen (DAMS) from Denmark with fifth. Sean Edwards takes the first 2013 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup pole

The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup kicked off its 21st season with a gripping qualifying on the Circuit de Catalunya. Pole position for the season-opening race in Barcelona went to Sean Edwards. At the wheel of the Allyouneed by Project 1-run new 460 hp Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, which is based on the seventh generation of the 911, he was by far the fastest driver on the Grand Prix circuit in Barcelona. Unexpectedly lining up next to the Briton on the first row for Sunday’s race is Poland’s Kuba Giermaziak (VERVA Racing Team). Demonstrating once again the tight competition in this attractive brand trophy series, 21 of the 25 vehicles qualified within just one and a half seconds. The Porsche 911 GT3 Cup is the most successful race car in the world. Since 1998, 2,395 units of the near standard vehicle for customer sport were produced. The new edition of the 911 GT3 Cup is the motorsports version of the future 911 GT3 and as such is the first race car that is based on the seventh generation of the sports car icon from Zuffenhausen. The 911 GT3 Cup will be run exclusively in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup in 2013. The car for one-make racing made its debut on the occasion of the end of motorsport season “Night of Champions” celebration at the R&D Centre in Weissach. Porsche Intelligent Performance: 911 GT3 R Hybrid 2.0 ready for the Nürburgring

Porsche has revised the ground-breaking 911 GT3 R Hybrid race car in all key areas and competes with the 911 GT3 R Hybrid 2.0 at the 24 hour race on 25 June. With hybrid components now approximately 20% lighter and improved aerodynamics, the GT3 R Hybrid 2.0 achieves comparable lap times with even better fuel efficiency. The output of the two electric motors at the front axle has increased from 60 to 75 kilowatts each, with approximately 200 extra horsepower available to pilots for seconds at a time on top of the 470 hp of the six-cylinder rear engine, depending on the balance of performance classification. Black Swan Racing’s Jeroen Bleekemolen qualified on the GT Challenge pole for the fourth consecutive race with a lap of 1:24.954 (95.685 mph) in the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup entry that he will drive with team owner Tim Pappas.
