Volkswagen is presenting the concept car of a new SUV generation in a world premiere at the North American International Auto Show: the CrossBlue. The largest carmaker in Europe conceptualized the new versatile SUV specifically for the USA and Canada. If it goes into production, the CrossBlue would enrich the Volkswagen model lineup with a seven-seat midsize SUV of the 5.0-meter class; currently, Volkswagen of America offers the Tiguan (4.4 meters long) and the exclusive Touareg (4.8 meters) as sport utility vehicles.It features one of the most innovative plug-in hybrid systems ever (TDI Clean Diesel + two E-motors + dual-clutch transmission + “propshaft by wire”). Volkswagen Introduces Performance Inspired R-Line Touareg and Tiguan

Volkswagen of America, Inc. announced today it will offer the R-Line derivative on two additional models for the U.S. market. Joining the CC R-Line and recently introduced Beetle R-Line coupe, the Tiguan R-Line and Touareg R-Line will be added to the Volkswagen line-up for model year 2014. Adventurer Rainer Zietlow and team look to break record in Touareg V6 TDI Clean Diesel

Rainer Zietlow and his team have set off on a new record-breaking trip: the long-distance adventurer is aiming to do 23,000 kilometers from Melbourne to St. Petersburg in a Touareg powered by the standard engine. Zietlow plans to cover the route from the earth’s southernmost city of over a million inhabitants to its northernmost counterpart in less than three weeks. VW seeks changes in tougher fuel economy rules

Volkswagen is pressing U.S. regulators to change a proposal to double auto fuel efficiency, arguing the plan puts it at a competitive disadvantage and unfairly de-emphasizes clean diesel engines.

Volkswagen did not sign onto an agreement backed by virtually every other major U.S. and overseas car company that underpinned the Obama administration proposal on Wednesday to boost efficiency targets to 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025.
