24 Hours of Daytona: Hour 4 Update

Four hours into the race and it has long been dark. Amazingly the race went safety car free for over two hours.  There have since been been four safety car periods, however there have been no major incidents. Already the race has taken it’s toll, several cars have either made a trip to the garage or have dropped out of the race all together. The #64 JLowe Racing GT3 Cup car spent a good amount of time in the garage repairing a damaged oil reservoir. They are currently back on the circuit, 32 laps down.

The weather is actually quite nice, with a temperature of 66 degrees Fahrenheit and no signs of rain.  It is a significant warm up from the last few days as temperatures have dipped down into the low 20’s at night.

Porsche is currently occupying eight of the top ten positions in GT while Brumos Racing is currently leading the race overall in their Porsche powered Daytona Prototype Riley.

24 Hours of Daytona: Pre-Race Update

Testing is complete, the cars have qualified and the fans have arrived. Final preparations are being completed and everyones focus is beginning to intensify. The 2009 edition of the 24 hour classic will be be starting at 3:30PM instead of 12:00PM as it has the last couple of years.  Most teams arrived at the track when the garages opened at 7:00 AM this morning and will not leave until 7:00PM Sunday night when the garages close. Crew members will not take shifts during the race and will be going non-stop until tomorrow night when they finish packing the equipment. The drivers are typically the only members of the team that will work on shifts throughout the race.  The race is just as much an endurance sport for the crews as it is for the drivers and vehicles.

Check back throughout the race for updates and photos.
