Suzuki confident of dissolving partnership with VW

Suzuki Motor Corp. says it is confident it will be successful in its bid to sever relations with Volkswagen AG as legal arbitration between the two automakers gets under way.

Last November, Suzuki said it would use arbitration to force VW to return the 19.9 percent stake in Suzuki that it acquired in 2009 as part of a partnership agreement.

Volkswagen Group Presents Record Results For 2011

The Volkswagen Group again reported record vehicle sales, sales revenue and earnings in 2011 and is confident about its prospects for 2012. “The Volkswagen Group has extended its string of unbroken successes in 2011. We are making steady progress on our way to pole position in the automotive industry”, said Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn, Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft, on Monday during the presentation of the Company’s 2011 financial results. Volkswagen Close to Deal for Porsche Stake

Volkswagen AG (VOW3), Europe’s largest carmaker, is closing in on a deal to purchase the remaining 50.1 percent stake in Porsche SE’s automotive business that it does not already own, people familiar with the matter said.

Approval from German tax authorities is one of the hurdles to an agreement, which VW and Porsche (PAH3) are still negotiating, the people said, declining to be identified discussing private talks. VW may announce the plan within the next two weeks, the people said. VW (VOW3) is considering setting up an umbrella company to purchase the stake, according to one of the people. VW to decide on North American Audi plant this summer

Volkswagen AG expects to choose a site for Audi’s North American plant by the summer, and locations in Mexico and the United States are in the running, according to Michael Macht, VW’s head of manufacturing.

Bentley Explores SUV options?

Bentley Motors Ltd., whose customers include Queen Elizabeth II and the Sultan of Brunei, may expand its line-up with a sport-utility vehicle to satisfy appetite for bigger luxury models, two people familiar with the matter said.
Bentley Chief Executive Officer Wolfgang Duerheimer, who as Porsche development chief oversaw the sports-car maker’s push into SUVs in 2002, wants the 92-year-old British manufacturer to build an off-road model and has already discussed his plan with executives at parent Volkswagen AG (VOW), the people said, on condition they not be identified because the matter is private. Porsche believes it needs to fill a hole in their product range. This hole exist between the 911 GT2 RS and the 918 Spyder. In their eyes, this would enable them to broaden and sustain growth.

Audi plans to outshine Mercedes, BMW with indoor track at Frankfurt Motor Show

Audi AG (NSU) will spend more than 10 million euros ($14.3 million) on an indoor test track at this year’s Frankfurt show to outshine BMW and Mercedes-Benz as rivalry among the three biggest luxury carmakers intensifies. Audi, which had previously showcased its models as part of the Volkswagen AG (VOW) group’s display, is investing more than ever to have its own pavilion.
