Wow, just came across one of the most thorough test drive/reviews we’ve read in a while. This one comes in the form of a Basalt Black Metallic Porsche Panamera S with a Luxor Beige interior.
autoevolution reviews the Panamera in 10 different categories, guest editor opinions, tons of photos and they’ve even created their own 3D panorama’s!
The Panamera isn’t Porsche’s first attempt at straying away from the 911-range with a totally atypical model. It might not even be one of its most disastrous. On the contrary, considering the market today. For example, starting from the 1970s, Porsche has tried to either draw attention from or complement the 911 with cars like the 914, 924/944, 928, Boxster/Cayman and of course, the Cayenne. So far, the most atypical of them all, the Cayenne, has actually proved to also be the best-seller of the bunch.

Over the last few years I have had the opportunity to experience things which many can only dream of doing. Though the path has been filled with many risks, trials and a lot of hard work, it’s moments like these when I realize how incredibly fortunate I am.
Over the last 2 years I have been driving race cars for Volkswagen in the Jetta TDI Cup. I was fortunate enough to earn a spot as a driver in the series and then was even more fortunate to be able to win the coveted Public Relations Contest in both years as well.
Gary Grant over at The Garage was invited to the Volkswagen Golf launch in Quebec. Part 1 of his 3 part series is up. They start off winding through Mont Tremblant, driving between the 3 and 5 door Golf’s and wagons, testing the DSG and TDI. Head on over to The Garage and read up and look out for parts 2 and 3.
Here in The Garage we have a long history with the VW Golf, dating back to the early Eighties. The first car I ever piloted around an autocross course was an 82 Rabbit GTI. The car was light, nimble, responsive and made the spectators giggle when the inside rear wheel lifted off the ground. The GTI responded well to fairly simple modifications that made the experience all the more fun. When the event planners at Franczak Enterprises asked if I would like to attend the launch of the all new 2010 VW Golf Family in Quebec I was more than happy to say yes.
Don’t let the ‘Street’ designation fool you, though. This is effectively a front-wheel drive S3 track car, complete with lightweight wheels, vented bodywork for improved airflow and an interior decked out with a roll cage, racing seats and harnesses. The only feature that makes this car ‘street’ over its Nurburgring 24-hour siblings is the extra seat in the cockpit and the distinct lack of sponsor decals on the exterior.

Autocar drives the new Skoda Yeti 2.0 TDI 140 and gives it a strong 3.5/5 stars.
The Skoda Yeti takes established VW hardware and pieces them together cleverly to present a well engineered, practical car with a mix of abilities to address a variety of customer needs. While Skoda may not have aimed the Yeti at the enthusiast, by giving its controls an accuracy and honesty it has made a car that is good to drive.
Were not sure about the reference to the “Siebener” BMW that Jack makes as we see more of a 754 of 1959 or the 928-4 beneath the surface. Purist or not, Jack has quite a good read and goes into detail about the PCM and brings many “other” brands into the picture. Does he like the new Porsche Panamera?
