Far from resting on its laurels after being named the 2010 “World Car of the Year,” the Volkswagen Golf continues to garner accolades from a variety of industry groups. The Golf has recently been named Urban Active Lifestyle Vehicle of the Year. A Volkswagen Golf blue-e-motion prototype electric car is the overall winner of the inaugural Future Car Challenge. The car also won its category, Most Economic and Environment Friendly Regular Passenger EV.
The Royal Automobile Club Gold Medal for the winning vehicle was presented to Jim Holder, Editor of What Car? and Volkswagen engineer Folko Rohde who shared the driving. The pair joined a total of over 60 entrants in travelling from Madeira Drive in Brighton to Pall Mall in London – a distance of 57 miles – with the aim of consuming as little energy as possible. Volkswagen’s Golf has been named the winner of the £16,000-£20,000 price category in The Caravan Club Towcar of the Year 2011 awards, retaining the title in spite of competition from ten new cars in that class.
