New Beetle drivers meeting up from all over Europe in Travemünde
Fans of the Volkswagen New Beetle from all over Europe will be coming together this weekend in Travemünde on the Baltic coast. The annual get-together, first staged in 2004, is heading this year for a record number of participants. Over 400 New Beetles and New Beetle convertibles have already been registered for the event. It is thus the largest Beetle fans’ tour anywhere in the world.
Open-air party with three Volkswagen Sound Foundation bands: Jenix, The Fog Joggers and On a SunDaY
Organiser Gabriele Kraft is delighted to have visitors coming from 14 countries: “Some of them are coming from as much as 1,800 kilometres away. We’ve never had so many registrations before from southern and eastern Europe in particular.” Kraft is organising the party this year for the sixth time and new participants learn about the drive out to the beach primarily via the World Wide Web. It’s for this reason too that the tour’s motto is ‘Around the World with the New Beetle’.
The drive starts tomorrow, Saturday 7th August, at Lübeck’s Volkswagen Centre on Berliner Strasse. The cars will already be on site by 9.30 a.m. The tour then leads through the Lübeck environs, making a stop in Warnsdorf/Timmendorf before finishing at the Brügmanngarten in Travemünde. With its large stage, this square on the beach promenade provides the perfect infrastructure for the open-air concert featuring three Volkswagen Sound Foundation bands:
From 4 p.m.: On A SunDaY
From 6 p.m.: The Fog Joggers
From 8 p.m.: Jenix
