The official start of the 2011 season of the Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup couldn’t have been any better, with superb springtime weather, enthusiastic motorsport fans and well-organized proceedings.
Just under 120,000 spectators at the DTM presentation in Wiesbaden were given a taste of what to expect in the second season of the world’s most environmentally friendly one-make racing series.
Its first outing last year was characterized by a mix of motorsport legends, top names and well-known guest drivers. In the demonstrations in the otherwise tranquil spa town of Wiesbaden, reigning champion Kris Heidorn really let rip in the Cup Scirocco, which boasts up to 275 hp.
As an official DTM partner series, the ten races of the 2011 Scirocco R-Cup will be part of the DTM. In addition to the German DTM races, there will also be races held in Spielberg, Austria, and Brands Hatch, UK. The first race of the season is at the Hockenheimring on 29 and 30 April.
