Aid helps Italian earthquake victims
The Volkswagen Group is donating one million euros to the fund-raising project to rebuild the town of Onna destroyed by the earthquake.
The decision by the Volkswagen Group Board of Management was announced yesterday during the ‘Porta a Porta’ program broadcast by the Italian TV station Rai Uno. Onna, a town in the L’Aquila region (Abruzzo), was almost entirely destroyed during the earthquake in April and is to be rebuilt as a symbol of the catastrophe. The fund-raising program was initiated by the German Ambassador in Italy. The decision to make the donation came following a meeting in Italy between the Ambassador and top managers of the German automaker on the occasion of the ‘Concert for Europe’ in Naples, when the Ambassador outlined his aid plan for the people of Onna.
The donation underscores Volkswagen’s sense of corporate social responsibility and its commitment to the community.
